History Repeating Itself?

I have sat down to write this entry more than once. I am trying to limit my own opinions from creeping in but, it appears that this goal is alot harder to achieve than originally thought!

On or about January 14th, Premier Doug Ford announced a “Regional Review!” Shades of Mike Harris! Regardless of your politics, you should be understand how this review could (and will likely) impact you – specifically your access to services and taxes.

I figure that sharing a reading list, which is by no means exhaustive, is better than me blabbering about what I think. It isn’t a long list (yet) but it is a start. Here we go:

  1. Regional Government Review – Province of Ontario. You might want to be sure to read the section on the Mandate of the Special Advisors and the questions they researching.
  2. Ontario reviewing regional governments, raising prospect of future amalgamations – CBC News
  3. The Case for Regionalism Revisited – Dr. Anne Golden, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Conference Board of Canada (Thursday, March 29, 2012—Toronto Region Economic Summit, Toronto Board of Trade )
  4. Legacies of the Megacity: Toronto’s Amalgamation 20 Years Later (August 21, 2018) – Matthew Lesch a 2017–2018 Postdoctoral Fellow at IMFG. He received his PhD from the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto

Although I haven’t found it online, the Advisory Body – Ken Seiling (@KenSeiling) and Michael Fenn (@MichaelFenn) – appointed by the the Minister of Municipal Affairs & Housing to help with this review will develop a detailed consultation plan for the review and submit it to the Ministry on or before January 31, 2019 for approval.

I will keep an eye out for this new reading material.

Time for me to go! Peace and love to all!
